Underneath the BDO brand, everything about the firm is extremely localised and nothing like it aspires to be. - Anonymous employee BDO Employee Review

Pros

Friendly colleagues, decent office location

Cons

Sub par management, mostly from Big Four coming here to get a second shot at their career objectives. Very poor infrastructure due to extremely tight cost control. Very limited IT, HR and Marketing Communications departments which exist for the sake of existing. Staff are here just so that they can move on to the Big Four later on, hence the bond, and the firm knows that deep down. Current salary level is the same for more than 6 years. Yet despite all this, the firm aims to be the "Big Five". Former colleagues who moved on to the Big Four all agreed that the Big Four are just way ahead professionally, socially, culturally, etc.

Pros

Not everyone will be your person, but the ones who are, you'll keep them for life. The intensity of the work forges real bonds. When you go through the grind together, those friendships/mentorship stick long after you've moved on. Same goes for upper management.

Cons

During busy season (approx Jan to April), 40 hours is a floor, not a ceiling, and that's pretty standard for firms of this type. On the consulting side, you're constantly juggling multiple clients with overlapping deadlines, so if time management isn't your strong suit, you'll feel it fast. Compensation is solidly middle-of-the-road; don't expect it to wow you.
