Pros

You work with a lot of smart, hard working people and certain teams have good cultures. There's a lot of interesting clients and transactions going on, if you roll your sleeves up there's a lot to do and great opportunities to learn and develop.

Cons

Where to start... Average to low pay compared to the market. Due to furloughing all graduates and freezing recruitment for 12 months during covid, they are still chasing their tails to make up the resource deficit. The Big 4, other top ten and industry firms are running rings around them in the recruitment market. That means everyone is flat out, always busy, always working with no sense of work life balance. Revenue growth is always expected despite headcount not going up. The IT, HR and financial management systems are frustrating, don't speak to each other and there is an unbelievable admin burden on managers, senior managers and directors.

Pros

Compensation is OK. There are some really nice people in the organization to work with, but you have to find them.

Cons

If you are not part of the SWC "club" (company name prior to them joining BDO), good luck. Poor leadership!!! Practice lead talks to everyone like they are talking to a CEO, not relatable in most cases. No clear employee development plans. You are held accountable for things completely outside of your individual control. They stress incorporating AI into work strategy, but have no plan on what that looks like or how to do it and want everyone to formulate it because leadership has no roadmap. One has no control over where you want to take your career, yet you are expected to know everything, about everything. As a result, you become an expert of nothing! Work assigned rarely leverages skills, almost as if they throw darts to see who works on what.
