Pros

Good salary, working with a company with reputation, good job description on the paper. Good team and supportive attitude from same level colleagues.

Cons

Absolute lack of training, supervision, feedback and support beyond my own questions, which made difficult to perform professionally. A line manager that didn´t follow internal process and procedures and the AWR regulations based, presumably, on personal affinities, undermining temporary staff. No internal feedback received by line managers in three months despite of an excellent feedback (internal survey and communications from hiring managers) received from external managers. A meeting organised (two managers, one employee in a formal room, privately during working hours) against the Employment Relations Act 1999 by which the employee has the right to be accompanied at a disciplinary or grievance hearing by a trade union representative, a fellow worker or the agency representative. The managers of this meeting stated that this was not a disciplinary hearing as such. However, considering that the only two topics discussed were negative feedback from the managers regarding the employee and it can be understood that this meeting was, in fact, a formal meeting (it took place in a meeting room, at a time previously arranged via email and with two line managers and only the temp, without any representation, colleague or witness), that goes against the statutory right of the employee (a temp in this case) to be accompanied to any hearing or meeting connected with "the performance of a duty by the employer in relation to a worker". The employee was verbally told that it was a 1-2-1 (whereas there were two managers in the meeting room) and he was not informed at all of the content of the meeting. No minutes were taken, no invitation of any other colleague, external manager or representative of the agency took place and, despite the verbal warning given. That is what a temp or new employee can expect from this department if the line manager doesn´t like them. All Apart from the report submitted to ACAS, the evidence accrued and a SAR pending. And other facts occurred during the weeks I worked there supported by relevant evidence that made me quit when I found another job to stop suffering this unprofessional behaviour by management that sometimes was close to bullying rather than supervision.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your time at our Co-op, and that you feel you were not given training or support. The four weeks of training you received was the same training we offer to all new starters in the same role. As with all Co-op colleagues within their probationary period, regular informal meetings and feedback sessions were held to check on progress and offer support if needed, giving you the opportunity to discuss any concerns with your manager. Regarding the meeting you have mentioned in your review, it's normal for both team leaders and managers to hold regular catch-ups and feedback sessions with colleagues, particularly those within their probationary period. This session was held to address any concerns and offer additional support if you needed it. It was not a formal disciplinary or grievance meeting, so there was no need for you to have a representative present. At no point was a verbal warning given to you during your time at our Co-op and I'm sorry if these conversations led you to believe this was the case, when in fact only support to ensure you could carry out the role to the best of your ability was offered. Regarding other roles within our business, while working for us you were employed directly by the Co-op on a fixed term contract so the Agency Workers Regulations were not applicable. However, during your time here there were no vacancies that were not visible and available for all colleagues (whether fixed term, temp or permanent) to apply for. If you have any concerns you would like to discuss please contact the team on resourcingservices@coop.co.uk or 0330 606 9444. ^Catherine

Pros

Team got on well, hours weren't particularly harsh (pay not particularly impressive either)

Cons

Overworked due to corporate ruthlessly cutting hours (while hiring more staff?), generally piling on more and more work to the store team without considering time constraints, absolutely no opportunity for advancement while a store manager is already there
