Co-op store managers have a certain ego about them, some are decent but a lot of them can be a-holes for no reason. Like I had one get mad at me for sitting down at the tils whilst I had a broken toe. Otherwise there’s a long list of stories I have from myself, that I heard from ex colleagues, and even people who worked at different coops in the area.
It’s not like they are cruel most of the time (sometimes they are) it’s more there’s a lot of passive aggressiveness over petty things which becomes uncomfortable.
Also this is a given in a lot of jobs but working at the coop can be exceptionally BORING. Incredibly dull and mundane job, it actually made me miss my hectic, lower pay, stressful waitressing job because at least there because being stressed is more entertaining than being bored. Like I always had something to do or talk about. At the coop there’s stuff to do for the first couple hours, and then it gets quiet and you’re just standing around trying to look like you’re busy. It’s very very boring.
