Too many hours - Store Manager Dollar General Employee Review

Pros

This company is one of the few that is actually growing in this economic environment. Plenty of new stores being added.

Cons

Store managers schedule is for 6 days a week, all year round, not just during peak seasons. Payroll for staffing is too thin, way too many hours that the manager has to work alone in order to make payroll. Necessary tasks can not be completed with the hours given, so the manager has to work even more hours (60 hours minimum, closer to 70 is possible).

Pros

The job itself is easy. The cash register, stocking (especially the totes and dry truck) and cleaning are so simple however there are certain things that make it difficult, although the work itself is not (under the right circumstances.)

Cons

They never have enough people on shift so it’s always difficult to get things done. It seems like all the managers I know from the store I worked at and the surrounding ones are all so deep into drama it made me wonder if I was back in high school. Dry truck always seems to bring far too much and the stores are so little that overstock is a huge issue here. The reason I ultimately left was due to severe mistreatment and some safety concerns I had regarding some past experiences. I am very glad I left and I would not ever go back.
