Worst environment I've ever seen for UX designers - Anonymous employee Fidelity Investments Employee Review

Pros

Oh, none. I'm sure other departments are better — it's a big company. Also, the Starbucks and front desk people are very nice.

Cons

Horrible, horrible environment. I've been in enterprise UX design for years, and I've never seen something so bad. First, most of the "design" team doesn't come from a software design background (think "first job after local graphic design agency") — they have very strange, inefficient, and ingrained processes. Members of management are emotionally volatile, manipulative, and aggressive to the point of creating a truly unhealthy environment (something I wouldn't say lightly). There is an incomprehensible Mean Girls culture where no one talks to each other openly and everyone throws their other team members under the bus to get ahead. I walked out of this job (something I never thought I would do) and I can't recommend it to anyone.

Pros

Benefits including profit sharing and bonuses are great. The breadth of this company provides a great opportunity to try out different career paths or boost your current one.

Cons

In my current role, I am working overtime more often than I'd like with recognition that seems to only go so far until it sizzles out. That may be tied to the size of the company itself, where promotions work in a "trickle down" manner.
