Pros

Gartner is filled with the most intelligent and bright minds in the industry. The traditional 'analyst' profile is unafraid to challenge ideas, constantly open to and curious about new information and possibilities. The traditional culture is one committed to learning, and open forums for communication, sharing and debate encourage everyone, regardless of grade or status to develop the best possible ideas, that change clients and the world. Originally, Gartner drove a deeply inspiring business model that literally shared ideas that changed the entire world. Benefits offered are also second to none in the jurisdiction in which I operated.

Cons

In recent years Gartner leadership has shifted the organization from an inspiring group of the brightest minds in the world, operating in a distributed model of control that drove innovative research that changed markets, to a systematized, procedural research model, inspired by CEB (the failing business that Gartner acquired in 2017). Gartner leadership has seen fit to appoint a majority of ex-CEB leaders into management and leadership roles. These characters are at best focused only on enforcement of process, and at worst encourage and hire people who do as they are told, rather than bringing their best ideas to the table. CEB management seems to operate from fear, focusing first on what the 'boss' tells us to do, rather than what is best for clients. I have slowly watched this leadership style lead to the disintegration of culture, engagement, research quality, innovation, etc. There is now little regard for the people within the system itself, or applying even the old-fashioned ideas that Gartner itself publishes on leadership (let alone the more leading edge ideas that are taking hold in the world right now). From stack-ranking and metrics driven performance management, to fear-driven decision-making and lack of concern for the basic tenets of humanity in team culture, Gartner has unfortunately descended in quality as an employer and as an innovator in the markets in which they do research.

Pros

Work life balance, though in late 2026 will be required to go back to office. Full autonomy for your own schedule.

Cons

Absolutely no path for growth.

Pros

Being a globally recognized company makes it easy to consistently engage clients. Great benefits. Amazing people (managers and colleagues) For the most part there is a clear path to success and promotions. Executives listen to feedback after every internal call to help guide strategy.

Cons

In office mandate increasing in office days from once a month to once a week. Need to live in Florida or Texas because of the in office mandate. Promotions take a while since there are many people going for the same roles. Hard to reach clients and constant territory’s shifting makes it difficult to achieve the numbers you and management expect.
