Pros

- Benefits package is great. - Lots of bright and friendly people in the lower level. - Opportunity to work with people from different ethnic and cultural background. - Opportunity to relocate to other countries.

Cons

- Highly bureaucratic culture. - There are more people talking than people working. - Employees are treated as resources not human. You are expected to do whatever you are told, don't ask why. - Long hours but don't expect any overtime pay. - Performance and pay are not correlated. Annual performance evaluation are pointless and insincere. - Salary is below market average. Large chunk of bonus goes to senior management. - Loads of politics. - There is no long term vision and strategy from senior management. Direction changes every couple months. - Management tends to set unrealistic goals, creating a very stressful working environment. - More and more jobs are being transferred to developing countries. - Limited career advancement opportunity. - Most senior positions are filled by managers seconded from other countries. These positions are only 2 years in length, hence these managers won't bother with developing people. - One can basically find all the bad examples and general problems discussed in an Organization Behavior textbook right here in HSBC.
