- Lots of resources available nowadays to do projects with. - Generally longer term outlook than a lot of other companies. - Some very good and highly smart colleagues to work with. - The good managers will listen to the merits of competent technical arguments. - Solid pay and reasonable benefits. - If you work hard and get results that lead to good performance reviews, you will often be rewarded.
Cons
- Culture is very "Chinese". And the "wolf culture" can create an unfriendly and competitive atmosphere. - Non-fluency in Mandarin limits opportunities for growth and promotion, and separates you from the insiders. - Overtime is expected when necessary and work/life balance is not a priority. - Lack of trust from HQ, and lots of greyness and uncertainty in terms of feedback about progress and projects. - External geopolitical stuff is a distraction that can add pressure to the work environment as well as outside social relationships with non-ex-pats. - Bureaucratic systems can be confusing to navigate and understand.
