Pros
Big IT companies like IBM, Infosys, Wipro, TCS put deliberate delay in the processing of good resumes. If you have applied directly or through a reference, your resume will be put on hold for 6 months to a year. These resumes will then be processed thru recruiters. Now they are killing two birds with one stone. First bird, HR managers of these companies operate as a gang. They get recruiters to organize the interview (at recruiter’s premises, certainly true in case of IBM). As the qualified candidates have waited for few months and are already running low on patience. Consultants and Hiring managers take advantage of this situation. They will offer much lower salary to the candidates then they actually deserve or would get paid otherwise (in case of a direct interview with the Company). Recruiters get paid a good amount of money, by the company, for this drama. For e.g. A Project Manager’s salary starts at around 14 Lacs p.a. For each successful placement, recruiters usually get paid a candidate’s 3 month salary. It means they would be paid somewhere close to 3 lacs p.a. HR managers get a share of that too. Second bird, HR Managers can show their own managers that they have saved the company bunch of money and they in turn get promotions and salary hikes.
Cons
Repercussions of this drama: ---------------------------------------- Company: is shelling out too much money on recruiters even though good resumes are at their disposal. They have to pay HR managers’ undeserved raises. Lowers Company’s reputation among the job candidates/ prospective employees as there is no transparency. Company will soon lose that talent to other better companies as everyone wants to get paid, what he deserves. Job Candidates: get paid much less than they deserve. If some candidate understands this game, he might become totally averse to that company. Even if he accepts the offer, he might soon start looking for better options.
