Pros

Great experience and a great learning environment. You will work with many intelligent people at KPMG. This is a great company to work for to gain initial job experience. Salary was very good compared to most other industries. I would consider this a consultant type position at comparing salaries.

Cons

Depending on your group, there could be quite a bit of travel. Also, promotion and advancement is dependent on how well certain management speaks up on your behalf. You will also work an average of 50-60 hours per week. Not conducive to a "normal" home and family life. I saw that peers with families had a very difficult time with life/work balance.

Pros

You get to work with an awesome, highly resilient group of local peers in the advisory practice. The KPMG brand still holds value, but the internal team dynamics have become incredibly fractured.

Cons

We have outsourced 80%+ of our Risk Advisory work, leaving onshore seniors with massive gaps in their experience. As a manager, I am stuck doing senior-level work because I typically have only one or zero local seniors or associates on my teams. The best leaders have already resigned because this model prevents actual management and mentoring. Also, it might take you 30+ years to become partner in Risk Advisory, if at all.
