Pros

The benefits package at KPMG was very good. On the audit side, it is possible to have a fairly flexible schedule; as long as the job was getting done, there was no micro-managing;a bonus to those of us working with kids. CPE was another beneift, one I didn't recognize until leaving and struggling to get 40 hours when at KPMG I'd get 100+ hours easy. Finally, getting the opportunity to visit numerous client in varying industries is a nice perk to learning more about the accounting world and how different firms do things

Cons

The downside was a result of my personality. I'm a heads down, get the work done person; not a reality for an audit manager who is expected to bring in business, attend trustee meetings, etc.

Pros

You get to work with an awesome, highly resilient group of local peers in the advisory practice. The KPMG brand still holds value, but the internal team dynamics have become incredibly fractured.

Cons

We have outsourced 80%+ of our Risk Advisory work, leaving onshore seniors with massive gaps in their experience. As a manager, I am stuck doing senior-level work because I typically have only one or zero local seniors or associates on my teams. The best leaders have already resigned because this model prevents actual management and mentoring. Also, it might take you 30+ years to become partner in Risk Advisory, if at all.
