Pros
I worked at Medtronic for 3.5 years. At first, perks weren’t too bad. There was a ball arena suite you could put your name into a hat to get free tickets to. Healthcare was decent. You got Medtronic branded things on your first day. Cool coworkers. It felt like the company cared about you. After 1 year, I saw the truth. They don’t care about you. Ball arena suite: sold. Healthcare: certain tests cost an arm and a leg. Medtronic branded things for employees: banned. Coworkers: laid off. All in all, the only pro is that it was a good opportunity to get my foot into the door. I got a substantial pay increase from my previous position.
Cons
My manager was the most toxic human I have ever dealt with in my life. She only had the position because of her “phD” title , yet refused to learn/didn’t know how any method worked in the lab. She was out of touch with reality and thought she was way better than you. She wanted you to feel like the dirt under her shoe. And she was good at it. Medtronic supported her every step of the way when I reported her (multiple times) to employee relations. She got no backlash. She then started reporting me and then I was constantly berated by ER. She made me be the only person in the lab constantly testing. She never moved me up or allowed me to advance in any way. She had me doing the same tasting day in and day out. For 3.5 years. She chose favorites and sucked the life out of me and most of my coworkers. Many left. Some got laid off. Medtronic then laid the rest of my entire team off. Thankfully I found another job very quickly (I had been looking for years and something stuck at the right time). If you value your mental health, avoid this company. They will take advantage of you and put people in power for their titles, not their leadership skills.
