Pros
If you’re smart or clever and willing to work hard, and you can get onto the better projects, it can be interesting and a lot of fun. If you’d like to show up to work, put in minimal effort, and collect a paycheck; it’s definitely the place for you… as long as you can tolerate the moron who will likely be your manager. If you’re not too bright, lack leadership skills, you’re willing to do whatever you’re told by your boss (even if you know it’s wrong), and you aspire to be middle management; this is definitely the place for you!
Cons
If you’re smart or clever and hardworking, you will not be rewarded for your efforts. At this place, you’ve got 10-15% of the people doing 80-90% of the work. And while you may be technically successful (even spectacular), you will peak quickly, you will become entrenched in the necessity of whatever you create, and there will be no opportunities for advancement. Worse than that, it’s as if the management is resentful of technical high performers, and you will be punished for your effort. The “leadership” is a self-perpetuating disaster. The people who are your leadership were technically inadequate (promotable) and completely willing to turn off their souls (follow their leadership without question). There are so many instances of immoral (potentially illegal) acts by the leadership. Experienced people are laid off and demoted for being too senior, retaliation is commonplace, people are promoted without merit, and HR is completely in on it. HR is there to protect the company; reporting problems will immediately get you reported to your management… even if they’re the problem that you’re reporting. If you’re technical, and you’re looking to have a technical career, don’t waste your time with NG. I wasted over a decade of my career at this place. While I loved the work, it was ultimately unsustainable due to the corruption and horridness and incompetence of the “leadership”. I am so much better off after leaving NG. I implore you to look elsewhere. You’ve been warned.
