Pros

The leadership I had at the time I worked there was absolutley fantastic. Leaders were more than merely 'management' becasue they posessed a true vision for the future and worked hard to make certain all our fellow local employees were able to see that vision, participate in the growth and company success and we were generously rewarded in relation to our effect on the team culture and prosperity we generated. Not all groups had the same high praise, so my experience may be singular. With that last line as a mini-caveat I would say for anyone who wants a rapid pace, important contribution to a larger-than-life team, the individual should apply and seek employment at Northrop. If selected and you really want to contribute it can be life-changing and financially rewarding. I had over twelve years there and several years in a row I earned 13% pay increases. Yes, 13 per cent. Nominated for employee of the year and had the respect of my managers, peers, and asociates at work. These folks love love love high performers. Get results and you will get noticed. Do it in a way that helps lift the team, and others around you and everyone wins. Think of others first. Think, then act. Listen before you speak. Watch others and assist them in their success and not only chase personal glory. In our managemebnt teams we routinely rewarded 'average employees' who would otherwise not see any glory, because they were dependable, always at work on time, reliable and trustworthy. The good employees did not bad-mouth the team, their bosses, the problems they faced, or lack of success. Keep a positive attitude and overcome obstacles.

Cons

If you are hoping to be coddled instead of challenged this may not be the right environment for you. If you are hired as Project Manager or any level of Engineer please rememebr to bring the boss a problem and a solution with enough supporting evidence/documentation to justify actions that are taken. Don't place your boss in a bad position to make decisions for you if that is why they hired you. If you think you can get in and hide as an 'average employee' you may be able to get away with it for a period of time, but please don't gripe about management holding you back.

Pros

Job security, nearly impossible to get laid off, Hours for most people are consistent, generally a good benefits package. You are able to jump around laterally within the company very easily. Once you get to T3 and above the salary becomes decent for prime standards. Easy, almost non-existent interviews.

Cons

Not moving fast enough in the current defense market. Lots of red-tape. Turnover at specific sites are insanely high. Promotions take forever and the increase in salary is minimal. They don't care about retention. They will let you walk and give your replacement a sign-on bonus and a higher salary. There are a lot of slackers and old timers riding it out till retirement. Only about a 1/3 of this site is actually productive. Yes-men get into management and ignore technical experts. Agile hiring is a huge issue where people are just thrown onto random teams. Easy, almost non-existent interviews allow people without relevant backgrounds to join teams. Every site operates completely differently.
