Awesome work culture but pay is low and learning curve is steep - Software Engineer II Philips Employee Review

Pros

1) Work life balance is pretty good 2) Leaves policy is lenient which includes unlimited sick leaves but conditions applied and proofs needs to be submitted for long term sick leave. 3) Work from home allowed but again it might vary from manager to manager. 4) Non-work related perks are pretty awesome. This is for non-corona times. Every quarter you get to go for resort parties and once a year you're taken for a outside the city party, which is refreshing I felt.

Cons

1) Management people are very less technical and that's why appraisals are not well judged. People who are active in social media and talk to people more often will take away higher hikes. 2) Learning curve for freshers especially is very steep. I would rather recommend freshers to join startups if they prefer knowledge-based growth. 3) Pay is slightly on the lower side compared to current market including annual compensation.

Pros

The people in non- upper management roles that work there are fantastic. Great sense of community onsite and the culture champions are consistently looking for ways to make work life better.

Cons

Very poor communication on the strategy for the business unit. Leadership publicly promotes innovation and new ideas to be presented but then those ideas are shot down or penalized in private by current upper management. The business unit leadership says that don't want excuses for project delays but will then decide to do 3 major layoffs in the first two quarters with no transition plan, no support for gap in resources and no expectations to delayed progress.
