Pros

*My experience at Publix helped me to get a better job because it is a respected company. *Made great friends. *Stock benefits.

Cons

*Extremely difficult to get full time. *Crazy hours, nearly impossible to have a life. Tons of nights, weekends, and holidays. *If you call in sick the managers lay guilt trips on you (I once had a manager tell me to lay down for an hour then try to come in even though I was throwing up and had a fever) even if you rarely ever call in. *They have been chipping away at benefits for years. Some examples: 1.) Used to be eligible for health insurance at 1000 hours a year, changed to 1500 hours per year. 2.) Went from paying time and a half for working Sundays to just 1 dollar extra an hour, now nothing. 3.) Did away with inventory bonuses for non management (yes they gave raises but trust me, the associates are still losing). *They customer is always right, even when they are being extremely unreasonable and even at times abusive. Management rarely backs the associates up even when you are trying to uphold policy. *Certain people get away with things others get suspended or fired for. *It's way too "corporate" and they do not care about associates anymore.

Pros

Good compensation including not just standard pay, but also end of year bonus 80 hours for hourly associates, 8% of your annual earnings granted to you in free company stock thru which quarterly dividends are paid, ok 401k, and gift card and other associate coupons. Good stability and growth. Good company culture.

Cons

Can be slow and resistant to change. Uses some antiquated systems and software that should have been replaced years ago. Does some things that don't make sense. Some managers can be good, while others not very good. Although these cons may be true for a lot of companies. All roads eventually lead to Lakeland where they are headquartered. Geography can be a big one if you are not a Florida native. If you don't want to live in Florida for some legitimate reasons, there can be limited job options in other states, especially if you aren't interested in retail or warehouse jobs. Standard retail negatives about not having a lot of holidays off.
