Pros

Respectable company, on par compensation, 9/80 schedule, wide range of engineering assignments, and by far the most intelligent group of engineers you can work with in the DoD sector. If you work in design/development, it is a very competitive environment which enables you to build a strong technical foundation.

Cons

For a person who has worked across multiple business units, I would say your experience can differ tremendously from one business unit to another. SAS has the feel of a company that cares, while IDS is all business. Sure, there is more interesting work in IDS, but IDS tends to use you for the job and drop you off once the program money dries up. The younger employees are undervalued. In some parts of the company, mgmt follows a "years of service" mentality, meaning that they will put a person in a position, not because the individual is best suited for the role, but because that individual has been at the company for a long time. This is followed by the absence of a proper mentoring program. If you are an individual who is eager to build your leadership skills to compliment your technical abilities, you will be frustrated.

Pros

I worked at Raytheon for over 4 years and had a great experience. The company provided many learning and growth opportunities. I was promoted twice during my tenure with the company, and my responsibility increased significantly. I felt like my management supported me and provided me with the career mentorship that I was seeking. I felt empowered and respected during my time there.

Cons

It can be difficult to work at such a large defense contractor company because of all the process and red tape. Things can move slowly, you have to be patient and pick your battles. That being said, if you learn how to work within the system, you can make a significant impact here!
