Challenging work, cool technology, poverty wages. - Systems Specialist Siemens Mobility Employee Review

Pros

Decent health insurance. Interesting work. Some good people. The pay might be ok for someone who just graduated and lives with their parents...

Cons

Compensation was unacceptably low. This is a high COL state, and I'm not kidding about poverty wages. $66k/year in Alaska. In general, they hire overly qualified engineers and pay them well below the market rate for an entry level technician role. There is very little opportunity for growth, and nearly all local engineering positions have been "outsourced" to Siemens' location in India. Quality of engineering suffered because of this. 401k matching starts at 1% only and takes 5 years to increase to 6%. But good luck making enough extra money to contribute!

Pros

If you travel you can make a lot off of per diem. At some points it exceeded my base pay.

Cons

No training. Management expects you to jump into the role with very little training and gives you very little in the form of feedback. You work as a fill in for the gaps in the system engineering process and the total lack of change management. There’s very little upward mobility. Just a manager and director above.
