Cons
Gaslighting managers; method of department onboarding can be best described as "trial by fire"; equivalent of throwing a child into the deep end to see if they can figure out how to swim. I had zero department-specific training and no study handover when I started getting emails about a study to which I was assigned (surprise!). I spoke with several colleagues who indicated this is just "how it is the first few months". I am currently in escalation because I cannot keep up with the tide of emails. It was discovered 3 months after I was hired that there was a glitch in the system, and new employees in my department were not receiving the department-specific training on the platform. No empathy on that front. My manager reminds me repeatedly how the person before me managed it just fine and had no problems, that it must be me, that this job was just like my last one at another CRO so what is my problem? (told this by someone who is new to this industry and had never worked for my previous employer). I was assigned to three studies my first week with an FTE of 1.4, but of course, it's completely my fault that I'm not keeping up. I am all for personal responsibility, and admit that I am struggling and could be doing better. However, a good manager gets in the trenches with you, not throws you under the bus the first opportunity they get to save face.
