Pros

Great culture, great atmosphere, lots of upward potential if you are young and under-skilled. Fantastic place for retirees or to pick up extra income. Its easy to settle in and find a groove if youre good with the Cons-below.

Cons

First and foremost - Retail pay is always poor because retail is not skill specific. No different here. Go get a skill. 2. Its hard to get noticed in such a large operation and takes awhile to start moving up. You have to be a real self-starter and push regularly to get trained and moved up. 3. The business model is typical, to minimize labor expense (#1 controllable biz expense) so run a skeleton crew and maximize the output of each producer. This pressure results in a lot of turnover. If you dont have a strong work ethic and enjoy the job, you will wash out. Especially if your still living at home and you dont really need the money. But thats retail everywhere if you ask me. HD is still your best bet if youve got the right chemistry.

Pros

The Home Depot has a solid moral compass. They aren't about sacrificing their ethics for the sake of a sale, which I love. They also hire a diverse group of people and give a lot back to the community. They offer a lot of benefits and little treats for their employees. Although they push their associates to meet quota, they're realistic about what can and can't be accomplished.

Cons

Home Depot has two different sides to it. Store associates and those of us considered "store support" who are payed by the vendors but work in the stores 100% of the time. I constantly hear about how store associates are stressed out by management and their hours are being rearranged a lot, cut, and they often are stretched thin due to lack of full staffing. "Store support" associates who do merchandising have it better than those who work in specific departments. However, you never really gain knowledge unless you have the time to look things up and read packaging.
