Not what I expected as everyone who I talked to raved about HD, but maybe it’s a store thing and not an online thing. - Customer Service Chat Representative The Home Depot Employee Review

Pros

Work from home. Able to flex my schedule Two 15 minutes breaks that I can take whenever I want to. Don’t have to be on camera all day. Equipment is provided and training is not too bad. They send gifts out all the time. Paid Holidays. Success sharing. 2 times a year! 401k. You can travel and take your equipment with you (if approved of course) Voluntary time off Apps for the associate. Hard to get canned

Cons

The benefits are subpar. Hard to get in touch with your supervisor when you really need support. Growth can seem almost nonexistent for some. Only 4 hours of PTO a month and you can’t use doctor excuses for any call outs. Systems are ALWAYS changing to the point where you think you may know something and then they up and change it. Too much change. Pay is not worth the abuse we receive from customers. Customers are treated better than the employees. Training does NOT prepare you for the floor. The raises are mediocre. Associates feeling so burnt out as the workload is a lot. Can get stuck with up to 5 chats and you are calling out to stores for the customers while taking chats. Weekly one on ones can feel like a bashing session. Some managers have little to no experience with your job role and so they can’t relate to you when you are going through it. No down time to do any kind of exploring for new opportunities. Chats come in so heavy.

Pros

The Home Depot has a solid moral compass. They aren't about sacrificing their ethics for the sake of a sale, which I love. They also hire a diverse group of people and give a lot back to the community. They offer a lot of benefits and little treats for their employees. Although they push their associates to meet quota, they're realistic about what can and can't be accomplished.

Cons

Home Depot has two different sides to it. Store associates and those of us considered "store support" who are payed by the vendors but work in the stores 100% of the time. I constantly hear about how store associates are stressed out by management and their hours are being rearranged a lot, cut, and they often are stretched thin due to lack of full staffing. "Store support" associates who do merchandising have it better than those who work in specific departments. However, you never really gain knowledge unless you have the time to look things up and read packaging.
