Pros

It's a job with wages.

Cons

The owner (also the manager) is rude and condescending to everyone, employees and customers alike (unless of course the customers are other business owners). Both stores have a local reputation for this. Training is minimal (and you will get chewed out for asking for more training) and makes it difficult to provide customer assistance without help unless you already know your job inside out. However, the manager hates being asked to help, even when no-one else is around. It doesn't help that the place is usually understaffed during busy hours. Safe lifting practices are discouraged, despite the bulk and weight of the items you will often deal with. Despite lack of training and support from the management, the workers take the blame for problems and customer dissatisfaction. The only break is lunch and employees are rarely permitted to sit, despite long hours and long periods of time without customers or work.

Pros

Due to understaffing, certain staff gets more hours. Decent enough pay compared to other companies, if you're patient enough (several years later) you can finally move up. You'll do decently if you're put under a decent manager.

Cons

Always understaffed and managers say we are "overstaffed", managers can influence raises to some degree by what they say and their employee biases, etc.
