Pros

the overall mission: development a good part of colleagues are commited to their work and believe in what they do some good experts salary, health insurance, pension, education grant etc bureaucracy lighter than at the UN secretariat

Cons

contracts are for 1 year, so there is a constant worry about whether or not they will be renewed there is no such thing as on the job promotion: you need to apply for higher level jobs jobs are generally earmarked for someone, so you need to network heavily to be that "someone" bureaucracy is heavy but not compared to the UN secretariat very decentralized organization so hard to get some coherent policies and structures in place
