Pros
-Competitive pay, especially for lower education levels -Great work experience and level or responsibility -Hard work and reliability is appreciated and rewarded
Cons
-It's a giant beaurocracy, so you have some of the problems you'd expect with that: paperwork, promotions don't always go to the most deserving, pay is according to a strict table and although good people tend to get promoted, you won't get paid more just because you're stellar compared to the guy next to you who is awful and is the same rank. -Going out to sea and training requirements can be a big stressor on relationships.
