Pros
Travel - I've been around the world twice in ten years and have great memories. Benefits - No comparison. Any other profession just can't compare. Pride in serving your country - Comraderie - Can't really explain this to someone who doesn't just get it. And unfortunately, most people just won't get it unless they have served
Cons
Pay - extremely low for the amount of work that you. Even worse when you consider that for combat pay or hazardous duty pay such as flight deck pay (most dangerous work space on the planet) you only get a few dollars more per day Family life- kiss it goodbye. It's not just the deployments but all of the time it takes to work up to a deployment that count. Long 10 and 12 hour days are the norm, not the exception, and two or three times a month you might get stuck with a 24 hour duty Leadership- Sometimes it's off the wall amazing, sometimes it's off the chart horrible. Unfortunately you only learn this during the stressful times like working up for a deployment, in the middle of a deployment, or even worse- in the middle of combat
