Pros

The medical and dental benefits are excellent. The job offers a wide range of challenges in your chosen career field. You will gain a valuable work ethic.

Cons

The pay, retirement benefits, and career advancement paths are primarily designed to benefit the careers of officers. The pay for enlisted members is not commensurate with the amount of expertise and experience required for the performance of their duties. The advancement system for enlisted personnel is slow and outdated to ensure a well qualified low paid work force. It should be more in line with the civilian GS grades. Long deployments hinder the development of a personal life outside of the Navy. Substandard living conditions also detract from the overall quality of life.

Pros

It is what you make out of it. You'll have good days and bad days. It's all dependent on your leadership. That can make or break the command. Medical is free, but can take a while to get seen. You'll meet a lot of new people and could travel around the world depending on your duty station. Education benefits and training.

Cons

Medical can take a while to get seen, unless it's an emergency. If you're single, the pay isn't that great, but you don't have to much to worry about for bills if you live on base. If you're on sea duty billet, your work life balance will be terrible.
