Pros

From the first day of boot camp (initial training), you have the opportunity to stand out. The Navy does well at mentoring and developing people into effective leaders, regardless of their education level or seniority. The culture weaves together a sense of history, mission importance, and caring for each other. If your interest is education, the Navy has impressive educational benefits, including initial training in a wide variety of career fields, tuition assistance for college and the GI Bill. Some ships even offer core college course aboard during deployments. Promotions and compensation come quickly at lower levels, slowing down at the middle to upper levels for Management (officer) or workforce (enlisted). Medical insurance is incredible for the price. Everyone has a true equal opportunity to grow in technical and leadership skills. You will also get either access to the military restaurant and lodging or receive tax-free allowances to purchase your own food and lodging.

Cons

Work hours may vary from a 40-hour week to 20-hour days and 120-hour weeks, depending on the job and situation. You are on salary, so no overtime eixsts Promotions can be slow based upon chosen career field. Expect to move every two to three years and be away from family on a recurring basis. Pay may vary greatly based on management or workforce, even with the same education levels. Additionally, the initial training is frequently outdated, five or more years behind current operational realities.

Pros

Effectively taught every aspect under the communications umbrella to a more than competent level. Effectively allowing an individual to become a one man media team in terms of knowledge and skill.

Cons

Sometimes leadership can place everything on one persons shoulders, miscommunications lead to large scale rewrites or redo's.
