Pros

Less pressure and deadlines as compared to private companies. More stability. Work goes through layers of processes and well tested before goes to production. If the budget is appropriated, your job is secured. Security clearance is required that causes somewhat less competition in the hiring process.

Cons

Mangement is senseless wasteful. Government employees do nothing.... Work is for consultants not govies. Security issues are very harsh... such as getting a ticket or something is not ignored. More time is wasted in getting access or security issues than actual work. If you know the right people you can stay there forever else you are as disposable as garbage. The level of technology they use is minimal or obsolete.

Pros

It is what you make out of it. You'll have good days and bad days. It's all dependent on your leadership. That can make or break the command. Medical is free, but can take a while to get seen. You'll meet a lot of new people and could travel around the world depending on your duty station. Education benefits and training.

Cons

Medical can take a while to get seen, unless it's an emergency. If you're single, the pay isn't that great, but you don't have to much to worry about for bills if you live on base. If you're on sea duty billet, your work life balance will be terrible.
