Pros
three to four prepared meals a day. always have someplace to sleep. pay increases are consistent the first two years as long as you stay out of trouble.(this may differ if don't start from the bottom pay grade.) work space is inside an air conditioned room. the only thing preventing promotion is time in the job and yourself.
Cons
*Shift style work times with the addition of other ships evaluation keeps your days busy and sometimes effect sleep. *You are expected to be be an expert in multiple different areas of knowledge, this becomes difficult when little time is allotted for training in each facet before moving onto the next. *Duty days in port require you to stay at work 24 hours to include weekends. this may then run into a work day in which you will be expected to stay for. * The ship leaves the pier and you are expected to be there for it. *work life balance is terrible. schedules change frequently, this puts stress on relationships and family members.
