Pros

I have not come across a single pro from joining this company and specifically this project. i am deeply saddened that the values of this company are diluted by a few selfish and unethical individuals. i had very high hopes of working for this brand but today i have recommended many colleagues of mine from not ruining their career by joining this unethical team. however the team has a good bonding - unified by the atrocities of this gross (mis)management detailed below. so you can that the team thrives despite the management.

Cons

GSS airwatch is handled by the absolute scum of management that I have ever seen my life and believe me I have seen a lot of scum in my life. i have been in this process long enough to completely understand the mentality of the management - and their sole aim in life is to figure out and scheme hundreds of different ways to make life as hellish as possible for their employees. and if that was their measure of success i am sure they would get a fat bonus as they are exceeding expectations. The major scum of airwatch gss aka VP has the worst ethics and is a wonder how did he rise up the ranks to become a senior manager. apparently douchebaggery helps I ve learnt from him. getting to actual cons itself now ◙ This project has no regard for due process and rules are cooked up at whim to suit personal motives. everything possible is done to paint the engineer in a bad light without even hearing both the sides of the stories - because the scum of airwatch think what they do is right and everybody else wrong. ◙ Because of the major scum of airwatch behaves in this way his underlings also start behaving in the same way as they are spineless cowards who cannot speak up or have started to look up to him as a "leader". (i am laughing calling this guy as a leader) ◙ naive people reading this review if you ever join this team - forget about growth. Please forget about growth. the scum of airwatch will do all possible things to prevent you from leaving this team - this is because when you were born you were tattooed that you belong to airwatch gss. so it is obvious that you are marked as a slave to airwatch gss. ◙ the scum of airwatch has 2 set of rule books. 1 set of rule books for themselves and another set of rule books for their employees. the rule book which they follow is vastly different from the rule book employees are supposed to follow. ◙ the scum of airwatch will often paint a very rosy picture that everything is fine in the team and find ways to convince you that it is YOU who are delusional and not them. ◙ the weekend allowance is very very very less compared to some of the other product based companies. it is a mere 2.5k which is not at all attractive to work on the weekends. ◙ personal development is not promoted in the team as the scum of airwatch keep pointing to lousy budget issues and other such excuses. the takeone program which is vmware's personal development program is also denied to the engineers citing budget issues despite the fact that the budget is managed centrally and not on a team level. the scum of airwatch attempt to fool the employees in this way. ◙ the entire process feels like this is a bpo wherein employees sentiment is not cared for and pure numbers is the name of the game. some managers have also been hired from such bpos who solely care about numbers numbers and numbers. employees are treated like robots. ◙ some experienced managers who were technical at one point (dont want to take names) treat the employees like kids by shouting and scolding them. are we in some kind of pre school here? shouting at me wont earn you my respect. respect is earned when you display it. maintain a sense of professionalism and do not treat employees like you would treat children by scolding and shouting. rather than humiliating me in front of others you are humiliating yourself by showing your true charactre professionalism. i honestly do not know about other gss teams and the culture there. but in airwatch gss the culture is terrible and i blame it directly on a few rotten apples at the top. i hate hate hate hate to the core some of the managers here and i truly hope that nobody else ruins their years here like i have. i wish to god if i had another chance i would not have joined this team even if the pay was crazy.

Pros

VMware is a big company but in many ways had a startup vibe. That was great because the resources and infrastructure of a big company were there, but it gave most people I worked with freedom to work on many projects, influence, move around, and contribute in many ways. Plus, many things moved faster than they might at other companies of the same size. Perks were really great including bonuses, events on the campus, opportunities, etc.

Cons

The biggest con is the annual layoff. During most of the years I was there, we were growing like crazy, beating expectations, gaining in stock price, etc. It was always positive and upward. However, every single January, it was known that there would be a round of layoffs, even when all numbers were looking great as they almost always were. Management called it restructuring. But, over the years, some really good people were let go for no apparent reason. Then to add insult to injury, a week or two later, there would be a company quarterly meeting discussing how VMware was doing so well and is still hiring, but they had to make some changes. It always felt dishonest and the sympathy for those let go came across as disingenuous.
