Pros

It's important to separate one's time at Veritas from their time at Symantec. Generally, Symantec was good; good pay, benefits, and the idea that you could progress your career there. Veritas offered the same pay and benefits (minus stock), but any hope for the future was dashed shortly after the business was sold to Carlyle. I worked through three layoffs that directly impacted my group, and there were more around the organization. People and roles weren't replaced, more work was asked of the already overworked. As a result, morale and work quality dropped. I worked with a number of great people. There is talent at Veritas. It can be hard to find, and as of late, might not be there for long. I know that this is the "pros" section, but not taking my time at Symantec into account removes most of the positive things I experienced.

Cons

Cons? Well, there are a number of them: Very light cloud focus. Most of the cloud products haven't seen major updates in 5+ years, some in 8+ years. Many competitors are eating into market share as a result. Little room for advancement. Layoffs. Whoa, buddy. Lots of layoffs. Lack of leadership. Veritas seems to have a revolving door of senior leaders. Few stick around. Many employees wish that the leaders that do stick around, wouldn't. The leadership that is around, seems tone deaf. I recall one all hands meeting where a senior leader presented what he thought was fun, and exciting news...two days after a large reduction in workforce. The layoff wasn't addressed until it was brought up by an employee in the Q&A session towards the end of the meeting. This wasn't unusual. In a small group session with the CEO Bill Coleman, Bill delivered a canned speech to me and four other people. That same canned speech was then repeated to the entire business unit, word for word, an hour later while we sat around him. Frankly, this is a bad company that is run by bad people. In "bad people", I don't mean that they're poor at their jobs. That's for Carlyle to decide. My impression after years in the company is that the people currently running Veritas do not care about their employees.
