Pros

It's a job, that's about it.

Cons

I have worked at Walgreens for a year and three months. I despise the management and anyone else who thinks it is okay to make the employees feel lower than they are. I have a lot of things to say about their working conditions: I don't know what it is about our store, but when the temperature starts dropping outside the air comes on in our store. Everyone came in wearing long sleeve shirts under their shirts and hoodie/jacket of some sort. We were all told to take them off and layer up underneath, that the customers have to see our slogan on our shirt saying, "We help people get, stay, and live well" clearly the same doesn't apply to the employees of Walgreens. Which brings me to another problem, no cell phones. I completely understand that. However, when I told my manager that my brother was at the hospital going in for surgery so I was going to have my phone on me that day, his response was, "Nope, you still have to keep it in your locker. They can call the store if they need to talk to you." So my response to that was to put it back in my pocket and continue my work day. No way am I going to put my cell phone in my locker when someone I care about is in the hospital. You're not supposed to call on your phones from a hospital anyway, so at the very least I was expecting a text. No way was my mother going to leave my brother in there by himself. On to the next situation, I have worked every single Holiday except the 4th of July, which if I didn't ask for it off they probably would have worked me then as well. I have never been late for work, although I have had to call out at least 10 times over the past 15 months. For starters I had a miscarriage that my manager knew about and still proceeded to act as if I had done some horrible crime because I called out for two days and don't even try to complain to corporate about it because they'll just sit you in a room and make you discuss how you're feeling with the person you're having problems with. Say goodbye to staying anonymous. I do a lot of the work of a shift lead yet I don't get paid for it, my old store manager kept dangling the idea of a leadership position in my face, then hiring outside people for the job and getting me to train them. I work in the photo lab and I have amazing customer service I call every one of my regulars by name and make sure they get the best deals I can give them, making sure they leave happy with their photos. Some of my customers go as far as coming in and when they notice that I am not working they'll come back when I am, because I actually take time with them. I fix their photos if they need it, I go in and look at them and make sure everything looks great. When my manager called me in for a talk the other day, he had nothing good to say about me. Probably because he knows that I ended up snapping at one of the Shift Leads I trained. She comes in and tries to tell me how to run my photo lab when I know it inside and out, watching over my shoulder and micromanaging me. I wasn't going to have it. I am considered a full time employee yet I make 7.69 and work 29 hours a week, plus I get $80 taken out for my insurance. When you do the math it's kind of sad. They say they don't have the hours then they go and hire new people. Most Part Time employees have more hours than I do, try around 36 hrs. There is so, so much more but I'll leave it at that. If you want to have a shift lead/assistant manager position at Walgreens, you'll get the job as long as you suck up and make friends with the manager. P.S. I worked in fast food before Walgreens and I made less money there, yet still made more and I was happier, the manager was always understanding and he would give me the hours that I needed.
