Pros

The pay is decent, but if you're working in San Francisco/union, the pay rate barely goes up. It starts off higher than other places, but the growth is very minimal. The store where I work at, management is fair with scheduling: vacation days, off days, rotating weekends. Interview is a breeze, very casual, just be real. Now a days, you can start out as a cashier and be promoted to a tech.

Cons

Applies to all retail, working weekends; I started out working every weekend [bs] and I had to demand that I only work every weekend, which is how it usually works, and boy did I have to jump through loops and hoops for that. You never know what shift you have, unless you work at one of the fidi stores, for all you know, you can be working the late shift everyday. Their week starts on a Saturday, so technically you might work 10 days straight. The pay growth is minimal, the job growth is minimal. No Christmas bonuses or any bonuses for that matter. The company is getting more stingy: wants you to do more: more volume, more flu shots, more blood pressure work, more whatever other kinds of shots, more everything with less hours because your store can't met the impossible 500+ scripts to sell. It's just an excuse for corporate to increase their revenue and your stress. I have been in the company long enough and met enough people to know that Walgreens does not have your back: with anything. They don't give a sh** if customers treat you badly, all they are concerned about is selling the prescription and making money. There is no company loyalty that I have. I have known several pharmacists who cannot give flu shots and were basically forced to retire/quit, don't believe me? ask around. Nobody will believe you because they're afraid their job will be on the line, in my case, I'm looking to for outs anyway. It's a great temp position, but definitely not somewhere I'd settle with.

Pros

Can be a fun environment. All in whom your staff is. Operating photo was fun and building projects for the customers. Learning about pharmacy operations.

Cons

Work life balance and low pay for what is expected. Not having enough payroll to effectively run a store. My store ran FE on a 320 hour a week budget. That was barely enough to get buy and meet the expectations put out by the company. I was never able to keep a full leadership staff. When a leader called out, I had to stay. There were days I was called away from my own dinner table. SM's were forced to be in the pharmacy for more than half of their day regardless as to what is happening in the FE. I worked over 50 hours a week and barely got to spend time with my family. If I wasn't at the store I was getting a phone call and having to go back to the store.
