Pros

The pay is good for this area. Many benefits come with the job. Plenty of work life balance. Frequent team activities outside the company and inside. A lot of technologies to work with. Plenty of room to grow. Obviously the company is stable so you know you will more than likely have a job tomorrow.

Cons

Rapidly becoming painfully political. Getting in the wrong area could be your pitfall. A lot of work (software developing) is getting sent off shore while all the paperwork stays at Wal-Mart for their employees to do. The problem with this is if you want to write software Wal-Mart might not be the place for you. However, if you are in to the managing contractors and doing paperwork for them then you found your home. It was not like this just a couple of years ago. It seems that this happened overnight. Lastly and probably the most important is that the process in which you go through to get something initiated, developed, and implemented is 10 times more important than the final result. This should reflect back to the previous paragraph. Are you result oriented or process oriented.

Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
