Pros
- Quality tech stack and a lot of knowledgeable and intelligent people. You'll learn and grow as a software developer if you join here. - Decent office perks. On-site barista especially - If you're good, your job will be safe. The gambling industry appears to be recession proof.
Cons
- Can be a highly stressful environment. That will depend on who you are and how much responsibility and accountability you put on yourself. The most productive and valuable people there are the ones that get stuck in. Unfortunately, it is those people who are needed when things go wrong. Being a 24/7 operation with a _massive_ amount of turnover (Australia has a gambling problem), such problems can be extremely stressful due to high visibility and the dollar cost of the ticking clock. - My particular team had a 'voluntary' on-call system, unpaid. I suspect this was under the radar of HR, so I can't blame them (other teams had paid on-call). But of course any such voluntary system is a peer pressure system. Relating to my earlier point, some people can switch off, others cannot.
