Pros

I work with brilliant co-workers and and don't have to deal with a lot of politics. We have the opportunity for autonomy and to do meaningful work - I know that I'm improving healthcare and actually helping people and patients every day. It's an atmosphere where we are constantly raising our own bar and nearly everyone rises to the challenge. Generally, people work a lot and work hard because they care. A lot of times, I'll be sitting in a meeting, and look around and think "holy @#$. There are a lot of smart people in this room." I can say with complete confidence that I'm surrounded by the type of people I want to work with.

Cons

It's hard for many new moms to return to Epic. There isn't onsite daycare, and there are not permanent part-time options. For that reason, a number of people end up leaving to either find part-time work or to stay at home with little ones. Others leave to be closer to friends or family who are located elsewhere, since everyone needs to be centrally located in Verona.

Pros

Great benefits at the company. They pay you pretty well. The campus is gorgeous in the summertime. The leniency on "work-attire" is actually a big plus.

Cons

The atmosphere of being "relaxed" and working at your own pace is a bit of a half-truth. While the odd buildings and common clothing create an air of leisure, every employee is actually working very, very hard. Long hours are almost par for the course. There are times when you've got no idea how to do the work assigned to you. The management/bosses put a lot of unnecessary pressure on tasks and deliverables -- there's a constant sense of stress that never needs to be there.

Pros

-Lots of responsibilities as a new hire -Solid information sharing among employees -Great benefits -Company headquarters are impressive

Cons

-No career advancement -Poor management (inexperienced employees are made supervisors quickly) -No work-life balance -Expect to work 60-70+ hours not including travel -Experienced people leaving in droves -Burden of all responsibilities placed on the Epic consultant and none on the client
