Pros

Relatively low entry bar as far as software developer experience. Was a fun place to work. Uses web based software development technologies.

Cons

Their COVID response was bad. They at first tried to deny it was an issue and instructed TLs to lie to us about it. They allowed us to work from home for a bit then tried to force us back into the office. They required us to give them medical information to continue to let us work from home, before the county health department told them not to. They were trying to redefine working remotely as working in the office with remote technologies. Following all this, they started restricting certain employee areas that used to have some amount of self expression. Purging the details for ex-employees. All of this likely as part of an antiunionization push, which also resulted in the combining of teams.

Pros

High pay for the area. Depending on the role and team you will have the ability to have a lot of ownership over the work that you do.

Cons

I'll share a personal story about my exit to provide an idea of how Epic treats their employees. Starting in March 2020, Epic began allowing work from home due to COVID-19. However, Epic told me that I had to stop working from home on 08/24 or that I would be fired. It was not possible to negotiate or have a meaningful conversation with HR. None of the following made a difference: * I could perform my job duties from home effectively * I had worked for Epic for over 9 years and was internally ranked as a top performer * My ongoing work on projects related to the national COVID-19 response * Personal health concerns that put me at higher risk for negative effects from COVID-19 * My doctor's opinion * The county public health order and how Epic's requirement violated it Epic later dropped the 08/24 requirement but did not allow changes to my situation because I provided the four weeks notice that they asked for.

Pros

Gain experience and skills relevant to project management and the IT industry.

Cons

Internal company structure is disjointed and significant distribution of work is loaded onto new employees. No meaningful interaction with HR or leadership. “Company values” regularly conflict with actual business practice. Typical work week is 60+ hours (only paid for 40)
