Pros
Despite the things I dislike about Epic and do not agree with, this is a no-brainer opportunity right out of college in a rough job market. Beautiful campus, benefits/perks, good compensation, great city, work with highly intelligent people, experience coordinating/managing a project that literally reaches thousands of people.
Cons
Not only do you have the job responsibilities of your actual position, but internal work is constantly put on your plate and you are in a sense, pressured, to take on more. I'd say most people there do the work of 3 people, daily. If you aren't working a minimum of 65 hours a week, something is wrong and you will likely be questioned about it. Take the personality test honestly; I didn't and I was put in a role that was not a good fit for me. If you don't like being the center of attention, don't go for a project manager position. Expect to be perceived as an expert in 2 months or less. Leading meetings with customers asking you complex functionality questions relating to customer-specific workflows. It's the Epic way to throw new hires into the shark tank to see if they can sink or swim. Very high stress, long days, more than 50% travel if in Implementation, the salary may appear adequate at first but with the amount of hours and minimal work-life balance, it's your soul and happiness that you'd probably value more than their dollar. The longer I stayed, the more I realized how brain-washed people are there. There are certainly unique personalities at Epic. Very competitive, very cut-throat, highly egotistical. These are people that rarely had to work hard for success in their lives. Ever since they were born they were told by those around them how great they are. But also, everyone is stuck in college and very much all about frivolously partying and taking advantage of trip reimbursements. It's embarrassing and not the type of people I wish to be associated with. Don't drink the Kool-Aid. During your Superday interview, people will try to get you to put on the rose-colored glasses and look at the art and the architecture and talk about how green they are and all their big plans. Pay attention to what matters to you in the long-run. Also, no real security or fire escape plans. Personally, at a campus with 6200 people from all over, in WI, on 800+ acres of land, I find this irresponsible. Not a family-friendly workplace (due to travel/work load), no real way to measure your performance. It's all based on peers' feedback that you may or may not ever get to know about. They'll tell you constantly there's no hierarchy but it's exactly that. Except, there's no structure. You have kids as "team leaders" who have secret meetings with other "team leaders" that ultimately determine your bonus, raise, and if you should stick around. You are very much a number at Epic. Easily replaceable. While you're there you'll hear, "We hire less than 1% of our applicants." "You are in the 95th percentile among your peers." It's all stuff to make you feel good about yourself. Which is why they don't use metrics to rate performance. People there wouldn't be able to handle a 2 or 3 when their whole life they've received nothing less than 100 percent. By the way, team leaders are made out to seem like they are someone you can talk to when you have trouble/need help...when really, they are your boss. Be careful what you say. Truthfully, trust no one at Epic.
