Pros

Quirky, yes, but I'm convinced that upper management is savvy and knows what it's doing. The work can be challenging and interesting, and fulfilling when you see how it benefits people. It's nice being surrounded by people who are young and smart but not so ambitious as to be too obnoxious.

Cons

Employees sometimes treated like helpless children -- and people rise to the expectations you set for them. People seem to be offered middle management positions on the basis of hours spent at work and a vague sense of project management ability, and certainly not on the basis of their skill or experience managing people. The intent is to have a 'flat' management structure, but in a company of 3000+ the result is a frequently frustrating tangle of poorly supported, unempowered, sub-par middle managers. Not sure if that's any different than any other company, though. The growth of the company has really stretched some of its geek-friendly corporate culture to the limits of absurdity.

Pros

The pay is competetive, the benefits are great, the perks are good, and the people are nice. I have recently completed the first week of orientation, and I must say that the propaganda certainly paints a nice picture

Cons

Long hours - that seems to be expectation. The flat structure is not necessarily something to be proud of. I am dreading becoming a workahaulic here.

Pros

Industry is hot right now because of healthcare reform, and Epic is a major player, but it's only because as buggy as Epic's software is, its competitors' are even worse.

Cons

Training does not prepare you for your job and you will be at a disadvantage if you're not a computer science major or didn't fiddle around with computers in your free time. A lot of bug fixes had to be done on a tight timeline (read: frequent overtime) since they interfered with patient safety or billing or whatnot, which definitely adds to the pressure.
