Pros

None. Don’t work here. Ever.

Cons

Management is the worst, and I’ve been through some pretty terrible management before. Management defied public health order, bringing all employees back to campus. They even insisted they were “facilitating remote work” by having employees come to campus but work in their own office. That not what remote work means!!!!

Pros

Epic offers developers a high salary for the area. Your coworkers at epic are smart and are genuinely easy to work with. The campus is pleasant with individual/shared offices instead of an open office.

Cons

As a developer, epic wouldn't be a first tier place to work. Traditional software companies offer more interesting problems and come with the additional perk of valuing their employees. Here are some examples of benefits where epic lags behind: - only 2 weeks paid maternity leave - 10 paid days off for the first 2 years, moving to 15 paid days off afterward (most companies offer 4 weeks) - Poor vesting schedule One of the main problems currently at epic is its disappointing covid-19 response. Management insists on bringing employees back while cases in Wisconsin are still high. Many employees do not feel comfortable returning to campus. It's difficult to understand why an employer would choose to make their employees return to campus and jeopardize employees peace of mind and potentially their physical health, when remote work is possible.

Pros

- Generally smart, nice coworkers - Working on software that helps saves lives feels meaningful - Good compensation for the Midwest, especially for someone just coming out of school - Good healthcare benefits - Beautiful, quirky campus - Amazing, low-priced food - Flexibility to explore work outside your core responsibilities

Cons

- Our actions and decisions often feel like a departure from our ideals and the semblance of culture evangelized by upper management , more-so in the past couple of years. We've pointed to our culture as justification for making questionable and disappointing decisions. Recent examples include the Epic Systems Corp. v. Lewis case which hurt workers' rights all across the country, and forcing employees back to campus unnecessarily and prematurely during the COVID-19 pandemic. - Development processes and tools feel clunky and outdated. We are bogged down by technical debt that typically puts innovation or process improvement on the back burner. - Your overall experience, ranking, and career trajectory are highly dependent on your team lead. Many of them lack proper training, skills, and experience to manage. It's really luck of the draw.
