Pros

- Working with incredibly talented, dedicated, competent, and motivated people - Teamwork, and all-hands-on-deck approach to customer problems - Varied and flexible work, responsibilities, and opportunities - Limited micromanagement - Many educational resources and chances to get involved in unique areas - Casual dress code

Cons

- Salary and compensation is a black box. Especially for work that falls outside the typical job role (aka project management or tackling large, customer-facing initiatives as a QAer still pays like just a QAer) - Upper Management is caught in the past and refuses to change. Working from home during COVID only came about after employee petitions and emails to the media bullied them into allowing it temporarily. Same for parental leave. - Vacation caps out at 3 weeks, regardless of tenure - No option for flexible work/work from home

Pros

Decent salary out of college, opportunity to travel, really feel the impact of your work

Cons

Recruiters are misleading on hourly expectations, multiple poorly handled communications and initiatives during COVID-19, increasing sense that employee well-being is not a major factor for the company

Pros

- Pay is good for Wisconsin - Health insurance benefits are good while keeping reasonable costs. - Hard working and smart (for the most part) colleagues. - Sabbatical program allows those that make it to five years tenure to have Epic cover a significant chunk of the cost to travel to another part of the world.

Cons

- Epic's feedback system makes it so non-management folks have significant control over your assignments and can prevent you from taking on other roles to further your career or skill sets. Any negative feedback, whether it's from a customer or the new hire on another team who didn't like that you would not do their job for them, can destroy any opportunity to adjust your role. Transfer requests will only be given any consideration once every 6 months, and if there is any negative feedback in that time, your request is automatically denied. The only ones that can truly craft a role for themselves at Epic are the ones that log 55+ hours a week and never have to prioritize some customer issues over others. - We're encouraged to become subject matter experts (SMEs) in common third-party products used by our customers. This is a trap. While it might be interesting, reimbursement for third party certification is rarely done, on the clock learning / study opportunities are few, and it brings a lot more job obligations without any benefits. You will be shipped off to customer sites on short notice to help with non-Epic products and regularly pulled away from your regular duties to help with escalated issues. None of it matters to management. Your additional efforts to help others on the team, while handling your own customers as best you can, are ignored when it comes time for management to decide on raises, bonuses, and role changes. - Epic forced all customers and consultant groups to agree to an 18 month no hire of ex-Epic staff policy or lose access to training material and/or maintenance fee discount programs. This was a giant middle finger to any Epic staff member who chose to not participate in the stock purchase program in order to keep their non-compete at 1 year instead of 2.
