Pros

Working at Epic provides many fringe benefits that help employees feel good about their work. There are also numerous opportunities to learn more technical skills and even earn verified certifications (e.g. Red Hat, LPI, etc.)

Cons

The work ethic at Epic is strenuous verging on the unhealthy. Especially the admins, they seem to be expected to and expect of themselves to work full work days on top of weekly maintenance windows that can last anywhere from 2-8 hours overnight.

Pros

Salary, learning opportunities (C# class, reimbursed classes through UW madison). Travel reimbursement every 5 years for sabbatical.

Cons

Not transparent. Lots of doublespeak, and everybody insists it's the exact opposite. Heavy cheerleader effect in the beginning. Cultish company vibe. Constantly dissing competition, insisting own moral superiority. Many young managers. Constant power struggle with boss. Everybody insists that we are collaborative, but the job, by construction, puts you in competition with your peers. They have a big firing season between february through may to make room for the big hiring seasons in the summer months, after schools let students out.
