Pros

(1) benefits; (2) depending on your management you can get by doing almost no work if you are an official, or someone with a permanent contract.

Cons

The list is too long... (1) no concern for your future if you're a contract agent; (2) you're doing more work than the AD you're replacing to save the EC money, but you are the first to go when they start reducing staff; (3) politics and personal interests rule decision making; (4) your work generally makes no positive difference; (5) too much inefficiency, incompetence all around.
