Pros

Most often a pretty decent work life balance. The office is pretty empty by 6 pm. Good benefits.

Cons

I expected the politicking to be better than other employers where you're rewarded for how well you can promote yourself rather than actual work accomplished. I was assured that the formal review process isn't a big deal and people just all work together against common goals choosing the best technology. Unfortunately I was in for some big surprises. At Expedia project related metrics are ignored to promote oneself or put down other honest hard workers. Many levels of management buy into this game and HR is often involved in telling employees what they have done wrong. There is no feedback loop. I've seen many cases where no notice or interaction was given that complaints were being made. One day you're fine the next day you're on a chopping list. And once you find out it's too late. Entire teams have stolen credit for work they didn't do and have also shifted the blame for their own mistakes. Senior management is acquiescent of these practices. Bellevue headquarters suffers from over crowding. The bull pens went from bad to worse when 20-30 people wasn't dense enough more walls were knocked down to accommodate up to 80. Even directors lost their offices. This indicates the value Expedia places on employees.

Pros

International environment, diverse workplace, helpful and nice colleagues, good place for fresh graduates.

Cons

Poor salary that does not match inflation, No career growth, Micromanagement done by incompetent people, Too many incompetent people in middle & upper management, 100% under surveillance while working, Endless useless meetings Weekly basis technical issues with the tools we use and are measured, Lack of empathy, Colleagues get mental break downs and end up on sick leave, If you don't agree and follow constant changes made by upper management you will be fired (get 2 months compensation, as per the Czech law but you will be asked to leave from one day to the other), No career path, During interview they will portray this as the best company with a clear career path - I and many more got fooled!

Pros

Can't think of many pros that were still the case by the time I left

Cons

Disorganised, chaotic, no career progression, terrible management at all levels. I had 8 line managers in the few I was there, all with different priorities and parameters for considering promotion. Bonuses and promotions are based on pure and unjustified favouritism with no accountability or transparency for the process. Constant reorgs mean no consistency or vision for projects so nothing gets done, projects regularly abandoned/deprioritised so no job satisfaction. Tech is old and chronically under resourced to deliver required developments to mak meaningful changes or reach objectives.
