Filled with politics and stagnation. Too bloated. Firing folks in 2023.

Pros

Good perks like hotel vouchers, annual travel allowance, etc.

Cons

Expedia is too bloated with managers, senior managers, directors, etc. to do any meaningful work. While Booking.com is running away with shares at all-time high, Expedia keeps churning out org changes internally. All the latest releases like OneKey have been a dud. Teams in Gurgaon, Jordan, and even Seattle are just busy saving their seats that they don't want ICs to grow. There haven't been any promotions this year and Expedia has been silently firing away a lot of people this year. Best part – there is no transparency or announcements in internal channels about the layoffs.

A good entry level company, where one can learn.

Pros

Work life balance, good tech stack, great benefits, kind people overall

Cons

You cannot expect growth even if you are exceptional. What you negotiate at the beginning pretty much sets the bar for your career at this company. Promotions are very political, and there is a constant effort to move the centre of mass as close to Seattle as possible. This creates fragmented teams and lack of trust. There is a constant exodus of great talent despite the bad market, simply because good talent can find alternatives event during bad times.

Pros

A company that has a great corporate culture and benefits. Although tourism workers are neglected workers throughout the region, annual leaves and working conditions are much more positive in Expedia Group than in local companies such as tour operators, hotels etc.

Cons

Unfortunately, when I was working in Expedia, there was a regional management that created its own working principles apart from the company culture and was inclined to abuse every process. Ethical violations (gossip, discrimination, nepotism, favoritism, retaliation, power abuse, violation of state laws) are easily practiced by some managers and and these violations were ignored. These managers, who were trying to manage a team with zero hard skill, were making themselves ridiculous. You shouldn't be surprised to find that executives who can't even comment on the entrance evaluations of prestigious multinational companies are very valuable in this company. If there was an international company that implemented really healthy work environment policies, these executives I mentioned wouldn't even be able to get there as interns and their violations would not be allowed for a second.
