Unjust Termination and Unresponsive Management
Pros
The Company Express Employment Professional- provides a lot of resources to the franchise and employees. Unfortunately, this location didn't believe in utilizing all of the training and assets available to them. Express Employment as a whole is a great Company. I would run from this location specifically!
Cons
They are franchised locations. I joined the company in April 2022, starting as an Employment Specialist and eventually earning a promotion to Assistant Branch Manager in January 2023. When I was first promoted I was promised a several month outlined training program. I never received even a day of training in this role. I was thrown into the role but open to it as they had told me I had already been doing the role in light of them firing the last Manager. I was open to all the ever-changing job duties and roles as they would change weekly, sometimes daily and I was always adaptable. It was upsetting not to ever receive training, but things were going well so I continued on. Unfortunately, my time with the company took an unexpected turn when I faced an unjust termination, potentially influenced by a conflict of interest as the responsible party, Fonz is related to the owner. My tenure before a sudden concussion was marked by positive feedback and dedication to my role. Communication with my direct supervisor, indicated that everything was running smoothly, with no negative feedback provided during one-on-one meetings. I expressed my commitment to the team even during my absence due to a medical condition, maintaining regular communication and being assured of employment upon my clearance to return. Upon my return, I was unexpectedly demoted from Assistant Branch Manager to Employment Specialist, a decision supposedly unrelated to my performance but rather part of a larger decision for the Owner's cousin to assume a managerial role and take on the role of my direct supervisor in this location as well. Despite expressing my commitment and support during this transitional phase, my subsequent requests for reasonable accommodations were also denied. Had this franchise- staffing agency, acting under Kaji Staffing had more employees than I could have taken FML and the demotion the day I returned from medical leave would be illegal. Challenges arose in adhering to medically prescribed cognitive breaks, and the new Manager objection to these accommodations further complicated my recovery process. A meeting with the New Manager ended in my termination. Despite my commitment to the team's best interests, the termination seemed abrupt and unwarranted, raising concerns about its connection to my unplanned medical leave. Additionally, I observed disparities in the treatment of female employees, including myself, compared to a male colleague. The New Manager engaged in conversations with the male colleague in a manner that created an exclusionary environment. Upon termination, I was informed that I would receive pay only until the end of the week. This decision is insufficient and leaves me in a precarious financial situation, especially considering industry norms for such circumstances. Adding to my concerns, attempts to address these issues with the owner, who also serves as the only HR representative, were met with unresponsiveness. I sent a formal grievance and multiple follow-up emails yet received no acknowledgment. On LinkedIn, the owner denied receiving my grievances and ultimately ignored my attempts at communication. Other cons you are on-call consistently and not paid for it. Your salary states you work 40 hours a week, but you never work 40 hours a week as your schedule is 45 hours a week and you only get a half an hour break for you entire 9 hour shift. I was on restrictions after a concussion and new Management said my additional breaks were unnecessary and not effective time management. Also the way the New Management/Co-Owner- spoke of employees and companies we worked with if they didn't agree with him, were extremely disrespectful and inappropriate.
