Pros

Great brand name with a wealth of clients, albeit quickly aging. Unparalleled technology and integrity. Exceptional brokerage platform for the self directed investor. Excellent preparation for career in financial services. Privately held by the benevolent Johnson family.

Cons

Very robotic, little room for personal expression. Template driven environment that frustrates top performers. Production pressure in insurance and managed money accounts. Proprietary offerings carry high fees and below average performance. Politics and finger pointing on the rise as competition erodes asset base. Product offering does not resonate well with sophisticated clientele.

Pros

I love my coworkers, they are truly nice people to work with. Fidelity has excellent benefits - medical, dental, 401k with 7% percent match (though you have to be there a year to get match and work 5 years to be vested), quarterly bonuses on performance and profit sharing. I truly love Fidelity and what they stand for. I just hate the role I'm in.

Cons

The role just sucks, especially if you work nights because they never hire enough people to work late nights so people can wait up to 10 minutes just for a password reset! It's a call center so it's constantly taking call after call and people can be too needy or hostile because they can't treat their retirement account like an ATM. You have to be in the role for at least a year to even be considered for other roles though it will just be another job on the phone all day. Also your calls are graded all the time and depending on your manager... it's a miracle if you do anything right on a call. Some people call in to get a balance and just because you didn't get the persons life story doesn't mean the call was "inconsistent". Metrics are so whack.

Pros

Fidelity Investments is a great place to start your career. I started right out of college 2 years ago and the starting salaries are competitive. Plus, you get amazing benefits such as dollar for dollar match on 401K up to 7%. In addition they give you 10% of your salary for profit sharing at the end of the year. I have worked with a lot of very intelligent people that challenge me everyday to make me better. I enjoy the challenge because if we aren't helping each other improve and to learn new things a job can get stale very quickly.

Cons

While the salaries are competitive at the beginning the raises are almost none existent. And, to get a promotion is even more difficult. If your looking for somewhere to grow quickly then Fidelity isn't the place for you unless your lucky. Also, there is a lot of politics involved in this company. You will see coworkers move past you that are terrible at their jobs (borderline clueless as to what is going on), but network very well and talk to the right people. This can be very discouraging to those who actually try and work hard. Because, at the end of the day your picking up their slack and they're reaping the benefits.
