Pros
There is significant opportunity to change jobs within the firm due to the diversified businesses within the company (employer services, fund accounting, capital markets, operations, technology). The benefits programs are strong. Employees can receive tuition reimbursement, gym membership reimbursement, computer assistance and even back-up day care. Some sites offer on-site health clubs and/or walking trails.
Cons
Employees are just cogs in the wheel at Fidelity. Two examples reinforcing this opinion are: entire business units are relocated on a whim and development programs are non-existent. Raises and bonuses are “capped” minimizing the importance of excellent performance. In the end, the really great performers leave seeking appropriate compensation. Many end up returning shortly after for a matching (or higher) salary indicative of their true worth (dictated by the market for their services).
