Pros

Decent starting salary, but they do not pay bonuses.

Cons

Very cheap. They will not spend money where needed to grow the business or to keep employees happy. It is a family run company with Ken and Michael Xi calling all of the shots.

Pros

Industry leading networking technology. Great people throughout the company at the operational levels. This could be a great stepping stone as experienced people are leaving in droves.

Cons

Ken Xie does not understand how to extend innovation outside outside of the products. Internal systems are a decade old and poorly maintained, Basic company building is poorly understood. Awful communication like price changes with 2 weeks notice, cancellation of the Fortinet Championship never internally mentioned, found out about the mass firing of the regional CISO's via LinkedIn. Feedback to leadership is handled poorly. They completely butchered the comp plan, handled the rollout poorly, and still don't actually understand why. The company has shifted from relationship focused to stock price focused and great people are leaving in droves. I left because Fortinet increasingly jeopardized the relationships I built with my customers.

Pros

This is a good company to start with, learn new skills, and then move on.

Cons

In June 2024, I came across a job posting on LinkedIn for a hardware developer role at Fortinet, requiring a Master's or PhD in engineering, but offering a salary of only $77k to $107k :D. This seems disrespectful to highly educated graduates and existing engineers in the Canadian job market. Furthermore, do not expect a raise or promotion. In this company, lobbying and politics will get you much farther than your education or skills, as higher managers often do not prioritize innovation or employee's ideas about anything.
